This vase was handmade on the wheel using a tan stoneware clay and glazed with a glossy white crawl glaze that I developed in the studio. The glaze retracts from the clay body leaving areas where it is visible, and creating a varied beaded effect on the surface.
This project features the results of my research into crawl glazes, and a desire for simple, elegant vessels mirroring the functionality of ancient grain vessels and cones of wrapped flowers. These forms allow the effect of the glaze to be the dominant feature whilst embracing the utilitarian nature of form. The project is an ongoing desire to create tactile, pulpous glazes on classical sculptural vessel shapes.
The vase is a unique piece, the photo is the exact vase you will receive from purchasing this listing.
