Classes
Material Research
As part of my artistic practice on land, material and identity, I offer classes centered around working with material. The classes are a mix of theory and practice, with discussions and site visits encouraging conversations around personal/collective/historical narratives and how to include them in our work, as well as skills-based sessions involving foraging materials, processing them and learning how to begin testing them for use in ceramic practice.

Day 1
Intro to materials
Will be a discussion day kicking off with a talk about what it is to forage materials and why, possibilities, personal and social narratives, and what kinds of materials are available in the city. We will collect and/or process materials depending on what is available and the weather, and cover the basics of how to process materials ahead of glaze testing.
–
Day 2
Testing and linear blends
An intensive day covering the basics of glaze testing with foraged materials, where you will have the chance to choose from a collection of materials to tests. We will also cover the standard linear blends and you will have a chance to make your own single standing tests and linear blends which will be fired.
–
Day 3* optional
Results and discussion
After a couple of days once the tests are fired you can come in for a more informal session, we can discuss the results and take photos for you to receive an archive of everyone’s findings.
* If you cannot make it on this day, your results will be mailed to you at an extra cost.
